Work Principle of Sludge Conveying System
Below is a general working principle. Specific design (screw, pneumatic, belt conveyors etc.) may vary depending on the sludge type, consistency, and site layout.
- Sludge Collection / Pre‑Treatment
Sludge is collected from dewatering units (filter presses, centrifuges, belt presses), or from sludge storage/digestion tanks. Pre‑treatment may include thickening, screening to remove large solids, or partial dewatering to reduce volume. - Feed Inlet / Hopper
The sludge enters the conveying system via a feed hopper or inlet port. The hopper may include agitation or mixing to ensure uniform feed and avoid blockages. - Conveying Mechanism
- In a shaftless screw conveyor: a flexible spiral screw rotates inside a trough, pushing sludge forward. Absence of a central shaft reduces clogging because sludge cannot build around a shaft.
- In belt conveyors: sludge cake or thickened sludge is placed on a belt and carried; for wet sludge, enclosed or trough‑type belt conveyors may be used.
